I am proud to be the music teacher at Kenwood Leadership Academy. I discovered I wanted to become a music teacher while serving as Drum Major of my high school marching band in Burlington, Iowa.
In college I double-majored in instrumental and vocal music education at the University of Northern Iowa. Later I obtained a MME in Choral Pedagogy at the University of Kansas and am currently pursuing an EdS in Curriculum and Assessment at the University of Iowa.
Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to teach elementary general music, middle school general music and chorus, middle school band lessons, high school chorus, show choirs, jazz choirs, musicals and private lessons in flute, voice and piano. My students have ranged from 4 to 74+ years old. I love learning and sharing what I have learned with others. This interest has led to presentations for a variety of local, state and national organizations. Each of these experiences has made me a better teacher and has prepared me for where I am today.
Kenwood Leadership Academy is a special place. We are a Leader in Me school that is teaching and practicing 21st century leadership and life skills. Most importantly we are creating a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader (Leader in Me website). This transformational process aligns beautifully with the Cedar Rapids Community School District strategic plan and theory of action.
It is an exciting time to be a teacher in Cedar Rapids and I am honored to be a part of the KLA team. Kenwood students are outstanding as you can now and will continue to see on this site!
Thank you for visiting!
